Την ήττα γνώρισε η Εθνική ανδρών από τη Σερβία με 3-1 στο πρώτο φιλικό που έδωσε την Πέμπτη στη σάλα «Σούμιτσα» του Βελιγραδίου. Παίχθηκε και 5ο σετ, το οποίο πήρε η «γαλανόλευκη» με 25-21. Οι δύο ομάδες αναμετρηθούν εκ νέου την Παρασκευή (16.30, ώρα Ελλάδας).
«Αν και χάσαμε, το τεστ μπορεί να χαρακτηριστεί θετικό», τόνισε ο συνεργάτης του Δημήτρη Καζάζη, Γιάννης Φάκας και προσέθεσε: «Στα δύο πρώτα σετ κοντράραμε στα «ίσα» την πανίσχυρη Σερβία. Poland and Russia remain on track to defend the titles they seized last year at the 2009 European U20 Beach Volleyball Championships in the Marina of this Greek island of the Dodecanese.
In the men’s competition, Damian Wojtasik/Marek Leznicki finished at the top of their pool and then scored straight-set victories in the double elimination phase over Greece and Germany, to remain undefeated in the men’s tournament, as they seek to defend the title won last year by their fellow Poles Michal Kadziola/Jakub Szalankiewicz. Also undefeated in Round III are the Ukraine’s Valeriy Samoday/Sergiy Popov, Spain’s Jesus Castizo Diaz/Victor Bouza Ferreiro and Germany’s Jannis Ulke/Finn Dittelbach. Twelve more teams, from Latvia, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Slovakia, France, Poland, Russia, Austria, Belarus, the Czech Republic and Greece also remain in contention, albeit in the losers’ bracket, with one last chance remaining to be exploited on Friday morning.


Despite finishing third in their pool with a single victory, Russia’s Ekaterina Raevskaya/Anna Alova shut out Switzerland’s Joana Heidrich/Tanja Goricanec and Germany’s Cinja Tillmann/ Teresa Mersmann in the double elimination phase and continue undefeated in their quest to defend the title won last year by Anna Markova/Evgenia Ukolova.
Round III in the winners’ bracket also features Germany’s Pia Riedel/Isabell Schneider, Poland’s Daria Paszek/Renata Bekier and Italy’s Marta Menegatti/Debora Allegretti. During the women’s opening two rounds Wednesday, seven break-throughs were posted with the third-, fifth- and seventh-seeded pairs were upset.

Nummerdor and Schuil extended their SWATCH FIVB World Tour winning streak to eight-straight victories by defeating pairs from The Netherlands and Portugal to advance to a Friday meeting against ninth-seeded compatriots Emiel Boersma and Joppe Paulides. After defeating a team from Sweden, Boersma and Paulides upset eighth-seeded Jefferson Bellaguarda and Martin Laciga of Switzerland 21-19, 15-21 and 15-11 in 50 minutes.

Το ελληνικό δίδυμο νίκησε την Πέμπτη τις Βραζιλιάνες Βίβιαν/Βιέιρα (Νο 11) με 2-0 (21-19, 21-12) σε 36 λεπτά και εξασφάλισαν μία θέση στην 5άδα και την Παρασκευή θα αναμετρηθεί με τις Βραζιλιάνες Ταλίτα / Αντονέλι (Νο 2).



Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι Αρβανίτη και Τσιαρτσιάνη είχαν αναμετρηθεί με τις Ταλίτα και Αντονέλι στο εναρκτήριο Όπεν του Παγκοσμίου σιρκουΐ στις 23 Απριλίου και τις είχαν νικήσει 2-1 (15-21, 21-17, 19-17) σε 61 λεπτά (μία ώρα και ένα λεπτό).
Οι Ελληνίδες πρωταθλήτριες επικράτησαν την Τετάρτη των Ελβετίδων Ζούμκερ /Κουν με 2-1 και στη συνέχεια υπερκέρασαν το εμπόδιο των Ολλανδών Μέπελινκ /Βίλντερ με 2-0.


«Έχουμε παίξει τρία καλά παιχνίδια. Η σταθερότητα που δείξαμε μας έφερε αήττητες στην πρώτη 5άδα», τόνισε η Βίκυ Αρβανίτη και συμπλήρωσε: «Παρότι κάναμε δύο μέτριες εμφανίσεις στα τελευταία Όπεν της Πολωνίας και τη Φινλανδίας, φαίνεται ότι βρίσκουμε το ρυθμό μας. Θέλουμε να πιστοποιούμε σε κάθε τουρνουά ότι αξίζουμε να είμαστε στην πρώτη δεκάδα της παγκόσμιας κατάταξης».
