The “Gelateria Callipo Cup” begins

Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia: ùTomorrow afternoon the “Gelateria Callipo Cup” will begin. This will involve the Pre Juniors teams of Italy, the Club Italia, the Brazilian Pre Juniors national team and Vibo’s under20 team with a couple of the most representative players of the region.

In the crucial phase of the 2009 European League in Portimão (POR), Germany and 2007 European champions Spain will meet in tomorrow Sunday’s European League final. Whilst Spain struggled against Slovakia in the first set (12-25) before winning 3:1, Portugal couldn’t take advantage of the home court, losing against Germany in straight sets.

The duel between host Portugal and Germany started tightly with both teams hitting top gear early on and scoring some fine winners. The second technical timeout came with the hosts in front 16-14 while Germany bounced back strongly on the back of improved blocking and cover defence, 23-23. German super star Jochen Schöps brought up a first set point for Germany with a burning back row winner, and when Max Günthör blocked for 26-24 some moments later, the guests from Germany led 1:0.


The match remained a tight affair and spikers from both sides continued smashing home some awe-inspiring winners. Portugal reached the first technical timeout in the second set 8-7 ahead after a clever Flavio Cruz attack, but the Germans used a 9-4 run to take a 16-11 lead. The German pressure was now very intense with Portugal faltering on the net. A hammer from middle blocker Georg Wiebel and a Günthör block kill kept the German team four points ahead at 21-17. When Flavio sent his serve wide, Germany won the second set 25-20.
Sebastian Schwarz, Robert Kromm and Schöps kept the Germans on course in the third set, and the team of head coach Raul Lozano led the first technical timeout 8-6. But the Portuguese spikers came back, with Valdir and Flavio working effectively once more, 20-21. But it was the Germans, though, who kept the upper hand and a spike by György Grozer brought up match point at 24-22. Schwarz finally closed it out for the Germans with a smart block out on the left.

Juan Diaz, head coach of Portugal commented: "We started the match very stable. Unfortunately, we missed some serves at the end of the first set. Tomorrow there's another day, we'll do our best to claim the bronze medal against Slovakia."

Raul Lozano, German head coach said: "We started poorly, but grew during the match. I think my players deserve this victory. Now we turn the page and concentrate for tomorrow's game against Spain."

Paparoni goes back home

After a year loan at Montichiari, Alessandro Paparoni i back home in Macerata. Born in 1981, 191cm tall, Alessandro came up in Macerata, where he won all the trophies there was to win. He made it at international level too, taking part in the Olympic Games in Beijing. Paparoni is currently recovering from a shoulder injury.

“The injury was quite serious – said Alessandro – but the operation went very well and I am now working real hard to get back in shape as soon as possible. My target is to be able to work with the rest of the guys when we start preparing for the new season”.

ΕΘΝΙΚΗΣ ΠΑΙΔΩΝ: Η δωδεκάδα του Βαλκανικού Πρωταθλήματος

Ο ομοσπονδιακός προπονητής, Μάκης Δημητριάδης ανακοίνωσε την δωδεκάδα της Εθνικής παίδων που θα αγωνιστεί στο Βαλκανικό Πρωτάθλημα, το οποίο θα διεξαχθεί στην πόλη Κάζανλακ της Βουλγαρίας από τις 22 έως τις 26 Ιουλίου.
Ο Δημητριάδης κάλεσε τους εξής 12 διεθνείς: Παναγιώτη Παπαδόπουλο (Ε Α Πατρών), Θανάση Μαργέτη (Πανελλήνιος), Απόστολο Καλαϊτζή (Γ. Ε. Αλεξανδρούπολης), Ανδρέα Λέκκο (Αναγέννηση Άρτας), Ραφαήλ Κουμεντάκη, Ανέστη Δαλακούρα (Εθνικός Αλεξανδρούπολης), Χρήστο Στεφανίδη, Γεώργιο Τζιουμάκα, Γεώργιο Μιχαηλίδη (Ηρακλής Θεσ/νίκης ), Δημήτρη Κωνσταντινίδη ( Α.Ο. Ορεστιάδας), Κάσσανδρο Στίγγα (Χ.Α.Ν.Θ.) και Μιχαήλ Λιόντα (Πανερυθραϊκός).
Για την προετοιμασία της Εθνικής Παίδων ο ομοσπονδιακός προπονητής, τόνισε: «Υπάρχει διάθεση και όρεξη από όλα τα παιδιά και σ’ αυτό συμβάλουν όχι μονό οι πολύ καλές συνθήκες που γίνονται οι προπονήσεις, αλλά και η μεγάλη βοήθεια και συμπαράσταση που δίνει τόσο η κοινωνία του Λαγκαδά, όσο και ο τοπικός σύλλογος στην προετοιμασία της ομάδας».
Οι προπονήσεις της Εθνικής Παίδων γίνονται πρωί και απόγευμα και θα διαρκέσουν έως τις 20 Ιουλίου, όποτε η ομάδα θα αναχωρήσει για την Βουλγαρία. Έχει ήδη πραγματοποιήσει ένα φιλικό παιχνίδι με την ομάδα ανδρών του Άρη την Τετάρτη, ενώ το επόμενο φιλικό παιχνίδι θα είναι με την Εθνική παίδων της διοργανώτριας χώρας, το βράδυ της άφιξης της ομάδος στη Βουλγαρία.

ΕΘΝΙΚΗΣ ΠΑΙΔΩΝ: Η δωδεκάδα του Βαλκανικού Πρωταθλήματος

Ο ομοσπονδιακός προπονητής, Μάκης Δημητριάδης ανακοίνωσε την δωδεκάδα της Εθνικής παίδων που θα αγωνιστεί στο Βαλκανικό Πρωτάθλημα, το οποίο θα διεξαχθεί στην πόλη Κάζανλακ της Βουλγαρίας από τις 22 έως τις 26 Ιουλίου.
Ο Δημητριάδης κάλεσε τους εξής 12 διεθνείς: Παναγιώτη Παπαδόπουλο (Ε Α Πατρών), Θανάση Μαργέτη (Πανελλήνιος), Απόστολο Καλαϊτζή (Γ. Ε. Αλεξανδρούπολης), Ανδρέα Λέκκο (Αναγέννηση Άρτας), Ραφαήλ Κουμεντάκη, Ανέστη Δαλακούρα (Εθνικός Αλεξανδρούπολης), Χρήστο Στεφανίδη, Γεώργιο Τζιουμάκα, Γεώργιο Μιχαηλίδη (Ηρακλής Θεσ/νίκης ), Δημήτρη Κωνσταντινίδη ( Α.Ο. Ορεστιάδας), Κάσσανδρο Στίγγα (Χ.Α.Ν.Θ.) και Μιχαήλ Λιόντα (Πανερυθραϊκός).
Για την προετοιμασία της Εθνικής Παίδων ο ομοσπονδιακός προπονητής, τόνισε: «Υπάρχει διάθεση και όρεξη από όλα τα παιδιά και σ’ αυτό συμβάλουν όχι μονό οι πολύ καλές συνθήκες που γίνονται οι προπονήσεις, αλλά και η μεγάλη βοήθεια και συμπαράσταση που δίνει τόσο η κοινωνία του Λαγκαδά, όσο και ο τοπικός σύλλογος στην προετοιμασία της ομάδας».

Στον τελικό του Βαλκανικού Πρωταθλήματος, το οποίο διεξάγεται στην πόλη Ντανίλοβγκραντ, προκρίθηκε η Εθνική Εφήβων. Το αντιπροσωπευτικό συγκρότημα επικράτησε στον πρώτο ημιτελικό της Σερβίας με 3-2 και την Κυριακή στις 19.00 (ώρα Ελλάδας) θα διεκδικήσει το χρυσό μετάλλιο κόντρα στην ομάδα που θα προκύψει από τον ημιτελικό Μαυροβούνιο- Βοσνία / Ερζεγοβίνη.
Ο ομοσπονδιακός προπονητής, Γιώργος Καραβιδόπουλος, που χρησιμοποίησε στο πρώτο σετ τον Δημήτρη Τζούριτς και στο δεύτερο τον Ανδρέα Φράγκο τόνισε: «Ήταν ένα καλό τεστ για τα δύο παιδιά που ήταν εκτός αγωνιστικής δράσης. Δείχνουν ότι θα ενταχθούν σύντομα στην ομάδα για την βοηθήσουν στο Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα της Ινδίας. Από αυτό το ματς κρατάμε μόνο το αποτέλεσμα και το γεγονός ότι προκριθήκαμε για δεύτερη συνεχόμενη χρονιά στον τελικό της διοργάνωσης».
